Holiday Shopping:  Yesterday and Today!

Back in the day, Maplewood was the shopping Mecca of St. Louis County.  That day was when the streetcars screeched to a halt at the Sutton Loop and dropped eager shoppers just footsteps away from Goldie’s Department Store, Katz Drugs and numerous other bygone retail icons of the mid-century. Well, the streetcar stopped running and shopping malls sprouted up causing shoppers and retailers alike to flee the area. Today, however, unless you live under a rock you might have noticed a new day has dawned.

Enjoy Thanksgiving with your loved ones but when you decide it is time to head out for holiday shopping, consider Maplewood.   A large percentage of Maplewood’s businesses are independently owned “mom and pop” places that offer an array of interesting and uncommon goods for all of the items on your list.

Consider the facts supported by  the 3/50 project  and take part in the “Small Business Saturday”  on November 27, 2010 is “The first-ever Small Business Saturday is a day to come together in support of the small businesses we love. The shops and restaurants that employ our neighbors and reinvest our money close to home and the businesses that are the heartbeat of our communities and local economies.”

Have a happy holiday and remember Maplewood this holiday season:  shop, dine, jingle
