City Council
The City of Maplewood, Missouri was incorporated as a fourth class city in 1908, to provide fire protection and education for residents.
In 1978, the City adopted a Charter form of government and created a mayor-council-manager government structure. The Mayor is elected by the community at-large and is the official head of government, representing the City at functions.
In addition, the Mayor is a member of the City Council and is entitled to an equal vote on issues, but has no veto power. Two City Council members are elected from each Ward. The Council is the policy-making body of City government and directs the City Manager as to budget, finance and policy issues.
