Police Building Bridges

The mission of the Police Building Bridges program is to collaborate with members of the community, and to customize the police response to meet the specific needs of an individual experiencing a mental health crisis.

Police Building Bridges is an innovative strategy that serves as an extension of the efforts of the Maplewood Police Department Crisis Intervention Team (CIT).

The Maplewood Police Department CIT has been in existence for over ten years, and nearly all Maplewood police officers are CIT trained. This specialized training improves communication, identifies mental health resources for those in crisis, and strives to ensure officer and community safety.

If you or a family member who resides in Maplewood has a mental health need and may require police interaction, a Maplewood Police Officer and social worker will meet with you in advance to discuss topics such as:

o    Support System

o    Triggers

o    Preferred Treatment Facility

o    Case Worker

o    Veteran Status

The Goal
Police Building Bridges is designed to customize the officers’ response to an individual and their specific needs. In the event of a mental health crisis, this program will provide Maplewood police officers with the information necessary to ensure the most effective and efficient response.
